Butter chicken or murg makhani  is a dish of chicken in a spiced tomato, butter and cream sauce. It is the most loved dish among the Indians specially the kids. Butter chicken along with naan is like a feast . Do try this recipe and enjoy. 

Ingredients

  • For marination;500 gms boneless chicken
  • Thick yoghurt 4 tsp
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • Lemon juice 4tbsp
  • 2 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Ingredients for masala;
  • 2 tbsp butter +4 tbsp
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3 medium size onions chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 500gms or 6 medium tomatoes
  • 5 to 6 dry red chillies
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 20 cashew nuts
  • Sugar 1tbsp or less
  • 125 ml cream or 1/2 cup
  • 1 tbsp kasoori methi
  • Coriander leaves chopped handfull

Directions

  • 1Cut the boneless chicken into medium sized cubes and Marinate the chicken with all the ingredients under marination for an hour.
  • 2Now in a pan put 2 tbsp of oil and fry the chicken uncovered on medium high heat until cooked as seen in the picture. Set aside.
  • 3Now for the masala take a pan and add butter along with 2 tbsp of oil add chopped onions fry till light golden brown add ginger garlic paste fry for a minute add tomatoes chopped fry till soft add the whole dry red chillies add salt to taste, cumin powde , coriander powder , garam masala powder and cashews fry till everything is well fried and fragrant which will take 5 minutes. Now off the flame and cool it down completely. Grind this mixture to a finely paste adding little water if required.
  • 4Now in the same pan add 4 tbsp butter now add the ground paste and 1 cup water and cook for 5 minutes now add fried chicken pieces and mix add sugar if your masala is thick add some water in the pan you fried the chicken and add it to this masala for more flavour. Now add cream mix well and simmer for 10 mts. Now add crushed kasoori methi and finely chopped coriander leaves mix well and serve it with naan or peta bread .
