Fish katakat is a Pakistani street food .The dings and clangs of the chef’s chopping movements are the main reason for why this food has such a name, but there’s actually some fun disagreement whether its ‘tak-a-tak,’ or ‘kata-kat..Chopping and mincing the pre-fried fish with all those seasonings is what makes the signature ‘kata-kat’ sound. Katkat dish can be made in any form of meat but i have tried only with fish . I have learnt this dish almost 15 yrs back when i was a huge fan of masala TV a Pakistani tv channel which had 24 hrs live cooking.  I used to sit with my diary open and note down all the recipes. For all those moms who have problems feeding fish to thier kids, this is the best way as its so tasty that kids hardly recognize its fish with no bones for them to get fussy. The bread item accompanying this meal will be chapati or any thing else u  prefer. You can use any fish fillet ,in UAE we easily get frozen white fish fillets or fresh cream dory fish at a reasonable price. I have tried this with both the types they come out delicious. Do try and give a feed back .

Directions

  • 1Wash the fish fillet and pat dry it with a towel .mix all the ingredients of the marinade and set it aside for half an hour. In a frying pan put 3 to 4 tbsp of oil and fry the fillets on both sides.
  • 2In the same pan add 2 tbsp oil and fry the onions which are finely chopped when they are lightly golden in colour add tomatoes finely chopped add salt when tomatoes mash up add ginger garlic paste 1tsp ,add coriander powder and zeera powder and red chilli flakes. Fry the masala well for couple of minutes now add the fried fish and break it up into small bits with your spatula. Here comes the kata kat sound because of which this name is given to the dish .smash all the fish and mix them with the masala ,it will turn out like a burji. Sprinkle lemon juice. Check the salt. Finally garnish with chopped green chilli and coriander leaves. Serve with chapatis.
