Elephant yam chutney,this was introduced to me by my co-sister shameem and she asked me to guess the main ingredient in it and i was unable to do so, as i had never tasted a yam chutney before. Yam was never my favourite vegetable but i loved the taste of this chutney and i decided it has to go in my blog. So here it is. Do try it and leave a feed back
Ingredients
- Elephant yam 160 gms (churana gadde)
- Dry Red chilli 2
- 1/2 tbsp coriander seeds
- 1/2'tbsp cumin seeds
- 1/2tbsp tamarind paste
- 1 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste ,curry leaves 5, coconut 1/4cup, urad daal 1 tsp
- For Tampering :
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2tbsp roasted chana daal
- Curry leaves 5
- Asfeotida pinch (hing)
Directions
- 1Peel and dice the yam and pressure cooke it with half cup of water for 3 whistles. Let it cool completely.
- 2In a pan add 1 tbsp oil roast chillies , coriander and cumin seeds, urid daal 1 tsp and coconut fry for a 2 minutes . In a grinding jar add cooled yam and roasted ingredients, 5 curry leaves, salt and tamarind into a smooth paste .
- 3In a temparing pan add oil, mustard seeds , hing , roasted chana daal and curry leaves . Pour this over the chutney. Enjoy with dosas or with any bread.
