Baking tarts are fun as the possibilities with them are endless.

Just a tart shel can improve our table spread. I make one type of tart and fill it with sweet and savoury fillings. To make a sweet tart you don't need a sweet pastry. You can make a tart shell and fill it with sweet fillings like custard and chocolate or even cake.

Cooking in a variety with kids is a bit tough and i always opt for the best and easiest.  This tart serves the purpose and pleases the health conscious too.

Fish Tarts

Ingredients

  • Pastry
  • 2 cups flour
  • 100 grams butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Water as required
  • 1 Egg
  • Filling
  • 1 potato
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 onion
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • Chillie and pepper powder as required
  • 1 cup boiled flaked fish
  • 1 tablespoon ginger and garlic paste (both mixed)
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Directions

  • Pastry
  • 1In a clean bowl add the flour with salt
  • 2Break in the butter and mix to resemble breadcrumbs
  • 3Pour the egg and mix gently
  • 4Bring the flour together by adding a splash of water little by little
  • 5Do not knead it too much just use a folk and bring it together
  • 6Place it on a lightly floured surface and roll flat
  • 7Cut into circles using a 4 inch round cookie cutter
  • 8Place each circle on a nonstick muffin pan
  • 9Place a cupcake case over the pastry
  • 10Fill each with baking beans
  • 11Bake on a pre heated oven for 20 minutes
  • 12Take off the oven and cool completely before filling
  • Filling
  • 1Boil a potato with carrot and mash it together
  • 2Add the mashed potato over the onion and the flaked fish
  • 3Chop the onion and saute in 1 tbsp oil
  • 4Season it with salt, pepper and chillie powder
  • 5Add a tablespoon of ginger and garlic paste
  • 6Cover and cook in a low flame for 5 minutes
  • 7Fill the cases with the filling and serve hot
  • 8You can add a custard or chocolate with fruits and serve as a dessert too
