I adore almost all sweet things. Two sweet treats that instantly take me back to my childhood is stewed fruit and plain yogurt with honey as these are some desserts that my grandmother used to make us during holidays when we stayed with her. So I decided to combine them in order to make the perfect healthy dessert.Stewed fruit delight

Not only do I find stewed dry fruit delicious, but is also a really good source of fiber and minerals. The plain yogurt provides quality calcium and dairy, the nuts provide protein and healthy fat and lastly the honey provides a powerful dose of antioxidants. It is not only delicious, but it is also highly nutritious, which puts it at the top of my list of favourite desserts.

Stewed fruit delight

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups diced dried fruit
  • 2 cups of plain yoghurt
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 star anise
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup chopped mixed nuts

Directions

  • 1Pour orange juice and wine in a pot and bring to simmer.
  • 2Add dried fruit, spices and 1 tablespoon honey. Stir well and leave to simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes. Leave to cool.
  • 3Place nuts in a hot frying pan and roast until nuts they get a nutty smell.
  • 4Layer honey, nuts and stewed fruit in a wine glass or ramekin while separating the elements with plain yogurt.
  • 5Place in fridge to cool before serving.
