I don’t know who came up with this, but sir or madam, I applaud you. You definitely had too much time on your hands, but I applaud you nonetheless.
My favorite soft drink and the saltiness of peanuts.
Legend has it that this unique pairing goes as far back as the 1920’s. It’s a Southern thing, those dumb Yankees up north have never heard of it, but I’m betting farmers in most likely Georgia didn’t have much time for a break in the peanut fields. So heading over to Wally’s Filling Station, sticking a dime in the Coke machine and an 8 ounce glass bottle of Coke and a small packet of salted peanuts was not only a sweet pairing but a truly Southern experience. Didn’t matter if it was Lance peanuts or Planters or Tom’s peanuts, but it absolutely had to be Coca Cola. One sip and you’re in the wayback time machine of the Deep South.
You sure can’t beat a cold Coke filled with a sleeve of peanuts when you want something to hold you over till suppertime.
