Chana chaat is the delicious, spicy, tangy savoury snack made of potatoes, chickpeas, chutney, yogurt and spices.
Before I got married, my mom visited my inlaws at tea time. My sister in law had made this chana chaat. When my mom and other relatives came back home, they all praised this chana chaat. I was then keen to learn the recipe from my sister in law.
Now I make it often and its loved by my guests. I will share this family recipe with you.
In a pot on medium heat, add boiled potatoes and chickpeas. Add red chili powder, salt, chaat masala and tamarind syrup. Cook for 10 minutes with one cup of water.
To make tamarind syrup : You can boil tamarind in one cup of water. Squeeze the tamarind flesh and strain the tamarind syrup.
Now you will need blended yogurt, sweet tamarind chutney, chopped onion, tomatoes, green chili and fresh coriander. Also chaat masala.
I always keep these seperately, it is fun to mix the chaat urself. First take the chickpea and potato, then add a tbsp of yogurt, a tbsp of tamarind chutney, chopped onion, tomato, coriander leaves and chaat masala. You can add green chili if you like it to be more spicy.
Now mix all of this in your plate and take a spoonful. Experience the spicy, tangy, creamy, crispy chaat flavors all at the same time.
