Khow Suey is a Burmese (from Burma) noodle dish with an array of different contrasting toppings that takes this dish to the next level and give it a burst of amazing flavors. I had first seen this dish in masala tv and was highly impressed and tried it and we all loved it. This dish is made vegetarian also but i haven't tried it yet as i love my chicken version. It has 3 steps 1st is making of chicken gravy. 2nd is besan gravy and 3rd in boiling spegatti and assembling which done at the time of serving. This dish takes a bit of effort but its worth it.


  • Ingredients For chicken curry;
  • Oil 3 tbsp
  • Chicken boneless 350 gms cut in cubes
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • 3 green cardamoms
  • 2 cloves
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Pepper powder 1/2tsp
  • Yoghurt 1/2cup
  • 2 tomatoes pureed
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fried onions 1 cup
  • Ingredients for besan curry;
  • Besan ( gram flour)100 gms
  • Yoghurt 1/2cup
  • Tomato paste tinned 2 tbsp
  • Haldi 1/2tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 3 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 1/2 tbsp
  • Zeera 1/2tsp
  • Spegatti 450 gms
  • Fried onions for garnish
  • Fried garlic for garnish
  • Chopped coriander and mint leaves


  • 1Method for chicken gravy:
    In a pan heat oil add chicken saute it till colder changes. Add ginger garlic paste and green cardamom and cloves add red chilli powder , turmeric powder , coriander powder , pepper powder fry well for a couple of 5minutes now add yogurt and 2 tomatoes pureed mix well add garam masala powder and salt mix well cover and cooke in low flame for 15 mts. Add 1 cup fried onions add 1/2cup water and let it cook for 5 more mts. Off the gas set aside.
  • 2Method for besan curry:
    In a large bowl mix besan , yoghurt , tomato paste , haldi, red chilli powder , coriander powder ,salt mix well to form a thick flowing batter you can add little water to make a paste.
  • 3In a deep pan put oil add ginger garlic paste , zeera 1/2tsp, now add besan mixture and fry well cook for 10 mts stirring continuously,now add water and cook again for 10 mts so that all rawness of besan vanishes your gravy is ready if its too thick add water to make it semi thick . Keep aside.
  • 4In a deep pan boil spegatti till fully cooked. Strain and add oil so that it doesn't become sticky. Meanwhile chop garlic in to roundels and fry them with oil till golden. And also fry onions till crispy golden. Chop coriander and mint leaves. All your elements are ready now.
  • 5For assembling your khaow suey:
    Take individual serving plates first put spegatti as required put some besan gravy then layer it with chicken gravy top it with fried onions and garlic, chocolate mint and coriander leaves. Enjoy.
