Jeera rice is easily digestible and it makes a delicious biriyani. Soya chunks is a great source protein and an alternative for meat/chicken. This biriyani tastes great when taken with onion raita or brinjal-sesame-groundnut curry!

Ingredients

  • Soya chunks(commonly known as Meal maker) - 50 gms
  • Onion - 100 gms
  • Tomato - 75 gms
  • Jeera Rice - 250 gms
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Curd - 2 tablespoon
  • Chilli powder - 2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder (mix of cinnamon, clove, cardamom, coriander, turmeric, pepper, cumin, fennel seeds) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil - 4 tablespoon
  • Mint leaves, Coriander leaves - to add flavour
  • Salt - to taste

Directions

  • 1Heat oil in a pan, and sauté onion and ginger garlic paste.
  • 2Add the ginger garlic paste, once the onion turns golden brown.
  • 3Then add tomato, after it gets smashed, add chilli powder, garam masala, mint and coriander leaves.
  • 4Now add soya chunks and then the softly beaten curd.
  • 5Pour water about twice the measure of the rice. In this case, measure 250 gms of rice in a bowl. Then pour twice the amount of water as the rice.
  • 6Allow it to boil, and then add the rice.
  • 7Keep flame medium and close the pan.
  • 8Let it cook for 5 min in medium flame and another 5 min in low flame. Stir occasionally, if needed.
  • 9Switch of the flame and let it be in the heat of the stove for another 5 min. ( In this time, the dampness in the rice gets absorbed and it looks separated)
